After 2.5 million votes, Ant and Dec announced that the winning 2017 act was Tokio, to his complete surprise.
Shocked, 32-year-old Tokio said: “I can’t believe what has just happened!”
Lead judge Simon Cowell gushed: “This was the most important thing. I’m thrilled for him.”
David Walliams added: “It’s fantastic. He is going to be a fantastic ambassador for the show. He oozes talent.
Alesha Dixon said: “I’m so happy! He wears his heart on his sleeve.”
Calling the winner, Amanda Holden said: “Do you know what, I thought he would! It feels as cool as when Diversity won.”
It came as the show suffered a few setbacks during this evening’s final competition heat.
DNA duo made an numbers blunder during their act, and lead Merseygirls dancer Julia Carlile almost took a tumble.
The 15-year-old performer had introduced a chair as part of their finale routine, but it was not fixed to the ground or supported.
Luckily the teen recovered from the wobble and continued with the group’s routine on live television.
The near-fall seemed to go unnoticed by the judging panel who were full of praise for the dance troop.
However, viewers at home were left fearing for the contestant and took to social media during the break.
